Search Broward County Traffic Records Online

The Broward County Clerk runs an online case search tool where you can look up traffic court records. This covers civil infractions, criminal traffic cases, and misdemeanor charges. It is free to search, though getting copies of documents costs extra.

The search tool pulls up case data for all court divisions in Broward County, including traffic and misdemeanor cases.

Florida's public records law makes most traffic court records open to anyone. Under Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes, all state, county, and municipal records are open for personal inspection and copying by any person. That includes traffic citations, court filings, and case dispositions in Broward County. Some things are kept private, like social security numbers and bank account data, but the bulk of a traffic case file is public.

Note: If a case has been sealed or expunged in Broward County, no information will be provided through the search tool or in person.

Paying Traffic Citations in Broward County

Civil traffic infractions in Broward County must be paid within 30 calendar days from the date the citation was issued. This is a firm deadline. If you miss it, you face late fees and your driver license may be suspended. The Broward County Clerk offers several ways to pay so you can pick the one that works best for your situation.

Here are the ways to pay a Broward County traffic citation:

  • Online through the Broward County Clerk's fine payment service
  • At any Florida AMSCOT location for cash payments
  • By mail to P.O. Box 14610, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33302-4610
  • In person at any of the four Broward County traffic court locations
  • Through the PayIt app or website at payitbrowardclerk.payitgov.com

Keep in mind that paying a traffic citation is a guilty plea. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles will put points on your driving record for most moving violations. Under Florida Statute 318.18, the penalties for traffic infractions vary by violation type. Broward County traffic court records will show the citation as a conviction once paid.

The statewide payment site at payflclerk.com also works for Broward County traffic fines. It covers all 67 Florida counties.

Conditional Plea of No Contest in Broward County

Broward County offers a Conditional Plea of No Contest for civil traffic infractions. This is a good option if you want to resolve your citation without going to court and without getting points on your license. Not every ticket qualifies, but many common Broward County traffic violations do.

The plea works like this. You file the form with the Broward County Clerk. The court reviews it. If approved, adjudication is withheld. That means you are not found guilty. No points go on your license. You still pay the fine amount, but you avoid the conviction on your Broward County traffic court record. The catch is that it only applies to civil infractions that did not involve a crash. Cases that require a mandatory court hearing under Florida Statute 318.19 do not qualify for this plea.

You can submit the Conditional Plea form two ways. Email it to TrafficeClerk@browardclerk.org or mail it to Broward County Clerk of Court, P.O. Box 14610, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33302-4610. Submit only one citation per form. The Broward County traffic court processes these without requiring you to show up in person, which saves time.

Broward County Traffic Court Locations

Broward County has four courthouse locations that handle traffic cases. This spread across the county makes it easier for residents to deal with traffic court records without a long drive. Each location offers the same services for traffic citations. You can pay fines, file pleas, request hearings, and get copies of traffic records at any of them.

The Broward County Clerk locations page shows all four sites on a map with full addresses and directions.

Pick the location closest to you. All four have the same hours and handle the same traffic court matters.

The Central location in Fort Lauderdale is the main courthouse and tends to be the busiest. If you live in north Broward County, the Deerfield Beach office may be faster. South Broward County residents can go to the Hollywood courthouse. The Plantation office serves west Broward County. All locations are open weekdays only. There is no weekend service for traffic court records in Broward County.

Traffic Violations and Points in Broward County

Florida uses a point system for traffic violations. The points come from the state, not from Broward County. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, known as FLHSMV, sets the point values. The Broward County Clerk cannot tell you how many points a specific violation carries. You need to check with FLHSMV for that.

Under Florida Statute Chapter 316, the state has uniform traffic control laws that apply across all 67 counties. That means a speeding ticket in Broward County carries the same point value as one in any other Florida county. Too many points can lead to higher insurance costs or even a license suspension. The FLHSMV handles all suspensions and reinstatements.

Some Broward County traffic violations require you to attend a driver improvement course. Passing a school bus, racing, reckless driving, running a red light, and traffic control device violations all carry mandatory course requirements. These show up in your Broward County traffic court record along with the citation details and any fines assessed.

Note: Points are determined by FLHSMV, not by the Broward County Clerk. Contact FLHSMV at 850-617-3000 for point questions.

Getting Copies of Broward County Traffic Court Records

You can get copies of traffic court records from the Broward County Clerk at any of the four locations. Plain copies cost $1.00 per page. Certified copies are $2.00 per page. You pay at the counter when you pick them up.

For driver license history records, the Broward County Clerk charges $14.25 for a 3-year record and $16.25 for a 7-year or full history record. These are available at any service location during regular hours. A driver license history shows all traffic violations, suspensions, and reinstatements tied to your license over the time period you request.

If you need old Broward County traffic records that have been purged from the system, go in person to any courthouse location and ask for a purged record search. You can also send a written request by mail to the Traffic and Misdemeanor Division. Purged records take longer to find since they are not in the active system anymore.

Overdue Traffic Cases in Broward County

Missing the 30-day deadline on a Broward County traffic citation creates problems. Late fees get added to the fine amount. The FLHSMV can suspend your driver license. Once suspended, you must pay reinstatement fees on top of the original fine to get your license back. It gets worse if you keep ignoring it.

Under Florida Statute 28.246, any fines, fees, or court costs that stay unpaid for more than 90 days will be sent to a collection agency. That agency can add up to 40% to what you owe for their services. A $150 fine can turn into over $200 fast. If you need more time to pay a Broward County traffic fine, you must request an extension in writing. Contact the judge or hearing officer who handled your case. Do not assume you will get extra time without asking first.

If you had a payment plan set up with the Broward County traffic court, partial payments can only be made on cases that already have an approved plan. You cannot make random partial payments on a standard citation.
